During all those fashion weeks (Rio, São Paulo, Ny, London, Paris, Milan and millions of other) we read  loads of forecasts of which will be the indispensable pieces for  a fashionista closet.  However,  seasons comes and goes  and some of them are always in the fashion! Those are pieces that every stylish girl should have. It was with this idea in mind that Nina Garcia, from the famous show Project Runway, wrote the book ONE HUNDRED where she listed, in alphabetical order, one hundred must-haves of her dear wardrobe.

Here you can see my own selection of 10 items with tips and curiosities:

1)    A-line dress
It will work for you on your best day. It will work for you on your worst day.  It will work for you when you don’t know what to wear, for all occasions and in all kinds of weather. And the best part is that it will flatter your figure! Yet, it demands so little in return, just a bold accessories and a great pair of shoes. To make your choice have in mind  all it-girls in 60s that used the A-line dress: google Twiggy, Penelope Tree, Edie Sedgwick, Mary Quant and Jean Shrimpton.

2)    Animal print

It’s a classic. However, be careful because there is a fine line between looking chic and looking tawdry when you use animal print. Buying a print with pedigree ( think Dolce & Gabbana or YSL) is the best way to avoid the garish look. Another tip is to wear only one piece of animal print at a time and make sure everything else is neutral.

3)    Ankle boots
Originally intended to be hidden beneath trousers, at Christian Louboutin and Miuccia Prada’s hand it became more fashionable with skirts and dresses in 80’s runways. Tips: when wearing then with miniskirts, try with black opaque tights to make your leg look longer!

4)    Aviators
Nothing takes away the cool factor quite like reflective lenses or shiny rims, so avoid them. Try to look for vintage versions!

5)    Ballet Flat
One of the few flat shoes that the fashion world has adopted and adored.  But every stylish girl should know that when the sun goes down, the heel goes up…so use them just during the day! Some affirm that Brigitte Bardot, who was a dancer, ordered the development of the shoe to Rose Repetto for the famous mambo scene  in the film God Created Woman in 1956.  Others attribute the “invention” of the model to Audrey Hepburn, also dancer, and Salvatore Ferragamo for the dance scene of Funny Face.

6)    Boyfriend cardigan

They had a big fashion moment when Marc Jacobs did a grunge show with the models using skirts, boots and cardigans oversized.  Ever since, never went out of fashion.  In fact, there is the hint: everything that looks to have been stolen in the boyfriend are always cool!  The better version is the one with four buttons and two pockets in the front.  Wear it with a well female dress and a belt.

7)    Cowboys boots
You can use with an female dress or with jeans and undershirt.  Curiosity: the first one model was "invented" when a cowboy asked to his shoemaker to make a cavalry boot with  pointed toe so that he could get his foot in and out of the stirrups easier.

8)    Fur stoles

It is always a hard task to match a stylist coat with an evening dress.  In these moments, the fur stoles are my salvation.  If you want to buy a real one, look for the Italians, healthy the best.  If you prefer the false, be coherent and buy a clearly false. ..never go for those that try to look real.  It is a big mistake.  Google "prada' s fake classic fall 2007"

9)    Motorcycle jacket

It is the jacket of the subversive world and the fashion world just LO-VE everything that comes from the rebels ones (with or without cause)! Get a stylish look with this typical piece of the 80s, but don’t forgot: is important avoid cheap and shiny leather!  Proportions are the key: decide between super oversized or  shrunken... the hint is to steal one of the boys or go down size.  There are no in-betweens.  It can be used it with barely everything since skinny jeans and shorts to pencil-skirt and evening dress.  Keep the jewelry minimum !  Rick Owens have the coolest ones.  For the classics, go to Balenciaga, Gucci, Comme des Garçons and McQueen.

10)    Red lipstick
The red lipstick is like your LBD or preferred jeans, does not fit the same way for everybody and each one should find which is the best for you. ..Nina Garcia says that the perfect option is the Chanel Red No. 5.  I prefer Paloma Picasso and the YSL.  And you?  Which is your loved one?

If you are curious to know the remainder about the pieces and hints read the Nina’s book  and be a stylish girl.  However, the author notifies:  "Auto-edition is the key.  It is important that everybody understand that I adapted everything in  these articles according to my style and my body.  I expect that you do the same, as this is not an inflexible and final list.  This would be an abuse against the nature of the fashion and of the style.  Every stylist  woman should know that her clothes are expression of whon she is! “

It is worth to say that those cute illustrations of the book are from Ruben Toledo, the most loved one in Manhattan!
