The object of desire that I have been most interested lately is the famous "red soles" of Christian Louboutin. Beyond being super sensual and pretty, those shoes seem to appear more like a symbol of status of the luxury market. Thinking about status, luxury, red and French. ..I remember the Sun King’s court. YES, back in 1673 other French also used red details in the feet as symbol of power. Another kind of power...
However, before talking about foot, I researched all meanings of red color in different societies. The red is the color that arrives more quickly at the human retina between the radiations colorings of the luminous spectrum. It is boasted, attractive and perturbing. Two of its main symbologies stand out me here: 1) Red of the fertility
To a great extent of the societies, the arrival of the sexual maturity is a landmark that rises to a rite where the bodies of the youths are adorned by red paintings. They are many “rites of passage” involving the red color. In tribes of the Congo, by example, the girl in the age of the puberty stayed isolated of the village for 2 or 3 months. United in small groups they blot the bodies of each other with the powder of a red wood. When the period of reclusion finishes, they wash themselves and go back ready for marriage, initiating a new phase of the life. Some native tribes that live near to Rio Grande celebrate the puberty with ceremonial dances, but the faces are equally painted with the reddish ochre color. In the India the women marry in red for guarantee that the union is fertile.
The red pigments symbolize the arrival of sexual activity, that didn’t exist in childhood - represented by the white color. The red is, then, symbol of fertility. Consequently , it is the color that attract the opposite sex for fertilize. It is the color of the sensuality, is the color that invites another for sex!
2) Red of the war
The salient, hot, and red color, frequently is associated to the first times of the humanity, to the psychological heating, to the fire of the body and to the primitive emotions of exaltation. It appears, like this, to a great extent of the preceding ceremonies of hunts. The red one embodies the magnificent virtues attributed to the blood and to the fire, assembling the man.
So, it is also enough utilized in the symbologies of the war. The Roman gladiators, by example, painted the bodies with a Mercury reddish for represent the triumph. In the Ethiopia, the men resort to the war with the half of the body painted ofwhite and to another one of red for favor the ardor during the battle and frighten adversaries. The red of the blood appears still representing the victory after the slaughter of him I exercise enemy.

Louis XIV decreed the use of red heeled shoes as official suit of the court, so much for the royalty how much for the noblesse presentée. The idea was evoke a notice to the enemy reigns that would be massacred by the loyal members to The Majesty. However, despite the fact that here the red was initially a symbol of war, the rules of the society leaded to another sign perhaps more important at the time (and always active in the fashion) : to the power of the "well been born". I explain. Since the red heels were part of the formal suit of the court, its use was restricted to the noble that had "genealogical qualifications" (defined in the laws of dressing) to be presented in the court. Soon, the exhibition of shoes of red heels was a sign of that the owner of the shoes had been in Versailles and was worthy of such right! Red feet, blue blood.
Already the red soles of Louboutin remit to sensuality of the woman, that red one of the fertility - and you know that it is not just in the feet that the women use the red to attract the man, dresses and lingerie are also good weapons ;). And where is the status? Since the French Revolution the “blue blood" doesn’t make any sense. What imports nowadays is “green paper"! Yeah, money is capable of giving (some) status in the present society. It restrict people and groups, and that’s what fashions is all about: restriction! So think with me: who can really pay at least 800 dollars for a pair of shoes of Christian Louboutin? Now yes. The red in the feet comes again as symbol of status and power! That’s the fashion world and market of luxury. The girl in your party in Louboutin soles want to seduce and want to tell something else.
But she speaks to who? Where? As to fashion columnist of the 70s, Eugenia Sheppard, spoke about another luxury label: "The symbol of the status always was secret environment, made use by women that really worry about clothes and use them like insignia of her clan." Some symbols just make sense in certain tribes and lose entirely the value in another context. These healthy matters are, however, for other articles that will come soon!
